The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is one of the most celebrated wildlife destinations in the world, renowned for its vast savannas, rich biodiversity, and the awe-inspiring Great Migration. Among its top attractions is the Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, traverse the plains in search of fresh grazing. This spectacle includes dramatic river crossings, particularly at the Grumeti River and Mara River, where predators like crocodiles lie in wait. Other highlights include the Seronera Valley, known for its high concentration of big cats, and the Ndutu region, ideal for witnessing wildebeest calving and predator activity from January to February. The Western Corridor and Northern Serengeti offer stunning landscapes and excellent wildlife viewing, especially during the migration months.
The best time to visit depends on what you want to see. For the wildebeest calving season, January to February is ideal in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area. From June to July, the migration moves through the Western Corridor, and by August to September, it reaches the northern Serengeti, where you can witness the dramatic Mara River crossings. Thedry seasonfromJune to Octoberis generally the best for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and the vegetation is less dense. However, thewet season(March to May) offers lush scenery, fewer crowds, and lower rates, though some lodges may close during this time
